This little girl lives in this school
with her dad who is the security guard. The school had been a secret storehouse
for weapons during Saddam's regime, and when the Americans invaded, vandals
came in and set it on fire. Several of the rooms exploded, leaving the school
without electricy and windows. This is one of the classrooms that is still
intact. The parents of the children who attend scraped the money together
to replace the glass in the windows of just two rooms. The kids still attend
regardless of the damage. The guard and his family have set up a make-shift
kitchen and living area in the back portion of the school. photographer: Kristie Alshaibi February 2004 |
